  • Notes 
    • Robert was the smith at Whitelaw (nr Rutherford in the Par. of Maxton) from at least 1773 to 1784, and in 1784 also described as "Elder in this Kirk".
      There is also a Robert, smith at Morebattle mentioned in 1824, but that is more likely to be his son Robert.
      Which Robert was the witness to a FOX baptism in Morebattle in 1797 is open to conjecture - and he could be a completely separate Robert!
    • Noted that on 6 Sep 1732 a Thomas, s/o John SIBBALD in Whytlaw was prenticed to Wm Richardson smith (B.)
      I can't immediately spot an appropriate William for this in our lot, but it seems too much of a coincidence for this not to be a connection
